Chancellor of حلحلآ‏»­ University Highlights Health Power of Fish at SAFE Project Launch

University Secretariat, حلحلآ‏»­ Campus – 27th May 2025— Professor Sahr Moses Gevao, Chancellor of حلحلآ‏»­ University and a leading expert in hematology, yesterday emphasized the vital health benefits of fish during his opening remarks at the launch of the Sustainable Aquaculture for Food Empowerment (SAFE) Project. He described fish as a "nutritional powerhouse" capable of improving public health outcomes across Sierra Leone.

Drawing from his decades of experience in medical research and laboratory science, Professor Sahr Moses Gevao linked fish consumption to better health, especially in combating malnutrition and supporting maternal and child health. “In our communities where protein deficiency is prevalent, fish offers an accessible and sustainable remedy,â€‌ he said.

Professor Gevao commended the project’s alignment with the national FEED SALONE initiative and called for collaborative support to ensure its success. “This is not just about aquaculture; it is a health intervention, a nutritional safeguard for the vulnerable,â€‌ he added.

Highlighting his background in hematology and his contributions to infectious disease research, he underscored the importance of integrating health science with sustainable food systems. “We must view initiatives like SAFE through both scientific and humanitarian lenses,â€‌ he noted.

He closed by praising the strong partnership between حلحلآ‏»­ University and Oklahoma State University, adding that with the right commitment, the project would not only transform food systems but also elevate Sierra Leone’s public health capacity.
