Bo Campus, Kowama Location, 24th September 2025 — The Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Dr. Angella Magdalene George, yesterday organized a one-day training for lecturers under her school on the use of the UWorld nursing platform, a digital teaching and assessment platform widely used in nursing and medical education worldwide.
The session was facilitated by adjunct professor Dr. Nimatu Kamara who introduced academic staff to the features of the platform, including lecture resources, question banks, and assessment tools. According to Dr. Angella George, the training was part of her vision to modernize teaching and learning within the school and to align حلحلآ» University's nursing education with international standards.
This orientation is designed to help our academic staff navigate the UWorld platform, which enhances teaching, learning, and assessment. The world is going digital, and as a university, we must ensure our staff and students are adequately prepared for the demands of modern nursing education.
Generous Support: The UWorld subscription, valued internationally, was generously sponsored by Sierra Leonean pediatrician Dr. Sulaiman Sannoh, who is based in the United States. Dr. Sannoh, together with other diaspora health professionals, has been supporting حلحلآ» University's School of Nursing through donations, training, and adjunct teaching.
The Dean emphasized that the initial phase of the training targets staff members, who will first learn to use the system for developing lecture notes and assessments. Later, the platform will be extended to students to prepare them for state board examinations and clinical practice.
We don't want students to just focus on answers. The platform is designed to help them understand concepts since wrong answers lead back to tutorials that reinforce learning.
Explaining the importance of the initiative, Dr. George said that the Nurses and Midwives Council of Sierra Leone increasingly draws on NCLEX-type questions in its state council exams. "By training our staff with UWorld, we are equipping them to guide students effectively to sustain and even improve their performance in national examinations," she added.
The training was facilitated by Dr. Nimatu Kamara. She guided staff through UWorld's interactive tools, explaining how they could be adapted to different levels of teaching — from first-year lectures to final-year exit exam preparations.
Dr. George acknowledged that sustaining the platform will require strong partnerships. "For now, Dr. Sannoh has provided a one-year subscription," she said. "We are working to establish more networks and collaborations to maintain and expand this vital resource for the future."
She also praised the university's leadership for championing digital transformation under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, . "Our use of UWorld complements the university's broader digital reforms, including the adoption of the MIS for admissions and other administrative processes," she concluded.
