Higher Education Minister Extols حلحلآ‏»­ University

حلحلآ‏»­ University, 4th May 2025- Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, has applauded حلحلآ‏»­ University for its transformative contributions to Sierra Leone's development.

Speaking during the inauguration of the University's new Court, she described the event as a renewed commitment to accountable governance and autonomy in higher education. She congratulated the new Court members, encouraging them to serve as strategic leaders and policy architects for the University’s future.

Dr. Ramatulai Wurie emphasized the government's strong support for higher education under President Bio's leadership, highlighting حلحلآ‏»­ University’s alignment with national priorities such as gender equity, youth employment, and food security. She was particularly impressed by the University's initiatives to train female Truck drivers and its ongoing agricultural and veterinary programs.

"We must tell our stories," she urged, noting that even she had only learned of some achievements through international partners.

She praised حلحلآ‏»­â€™s leadership for expanding its reach with plans for a medical school, which she said would strengthen the national health system.

The minister noted that حلحلآ‏»­ had evolved beyond its agricultural roots into a hub for education, environmental science, and public service training.

“حلحلآ‏»­ is more than a university,â€‌ she said. “It is a cornerstone of national transformation.â€‌

On the subject of governance, Dr. Wurie reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to reforming higher education by ensuring quality, equity, and relevance. She outlined steps taken to strengthen governance systems, including aligning curricula with labor market needs and developing a national research and innovation policy in partnership with UNESCO.

Digital transformation also featured in her remarks, with the minister detailing efforts to expand internet access through Starlink and develop a national digital education management system. She also expressed personal interest in securing a PhD opportunity for حلحلآ‏»­ University under a green energy grant project, reinforcing her commitment to capacity-building at the institution.

Minister Wurie pledged continued support for حلحلآ‏»­ University’s development, encouraging the new Court members to exercise bold and inclusive leadership. "Let us protect and build on this legacy," she said, "so حلحلآ‏»­ University remains a beacon of excellence."
