University Secretariat, حلحلآ‏» Campus – 16th May 2025 — Professor Roland Suluku, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, and حلحلآ‏» University Representative at the Presidential Council of Feed Salone, has presented a bold Agricultural Investment Plan aimed at transforming the country’s food production, promoting youth employment, and advancing agricultural technology at حلحلآ‏» University. The plan was unveiled during a key event at the University Secretariat, حلحلآ‏» Campus.

In his presentation, Professor Roland Suluku stressed the importance of collaboration across various schools, including Natural Resource Management, Engineering, and the School of Technology. He highlighted that the initiative is a collective effort designed to support not only the School of Agriculture but the entire university in contributing to national economic growth.

“This plan goes beyond traditional farming,â€‌ Prof. Suluku explained. “We want to create synergies between fisheries, mechanization, and crop sciences to increase food production and improve economic outcomes. Our goal is to produce locally grown food to feed our communities and strengthen the national economy.â€‌

Central to the investment plan are strategies focused on mechanization and irrigation. Professor Suluku emphasized the need to develop sustainable technologies and service delivery systems to support large-scale food and livestock production. The initiative also aims to align with government policies to enhance agricultural productivity and infrastructure.

He further raised concerns about the misuse of pesticides, noting that many chemicals currently used are outdated and unsafe. “Building capacity for the safe and effective use of agrochemicals is critical,â€‌ he said. The plan includes efforts to promote modern, technology-driven farming practices to ensure safer and more productive agriculture.

The Dean acknowledged challenges such as equipment breakdowns and limited extension services but praised colleagues like Dr. Samura for their unwavering support. He also announced plans to revive the university’s agricultural news bulletin to keep stakeholders informed about ongoing projects and research.

Following Prof. Suluku’s presentation, Professor BashiruMohamedKoroma, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of حلحلآ‏» University, expressed strong support for the plan, highlighting its potential to position حلحلآ‏» University as a leader in agricultural innovation and education, while contributing significantly to Sierra Leone’s development goals.
